(2) (Binary File Transfer) An early extension to Group 3 and 4 fax protocols that enables transmission of any binary data over a fax modem. Conceived before analog modems became widely used, it allows executable programs and other binary files to be encoded in the format of a printed fax page and converted back to binary at the receiving end.
