A CDE Definition
See one-click ordering.
The ability to purchase merchandise over the Internet by clicking a single button on a Web page after selecting merchandise. In 1999, Amazon.com was issued a patent on "1-Click," described as "Method and system for placing a purchase order via a communications network." Amazon's 1-Click ordering has been extremely successful (see Amazon.com).
When a person's name, address and credit card number are stored on the vendor's Web server, it is very easy to make purchases. Ordering from online stores has grown exponentially due to this convenience, whether the user clicks once via Amazon or with two or more clicks on other sites. See digital wallet and cookie.
