Definition: Basecamp


A Web-based project management and collaboration system from Basecamp, introduced in 2004. Along with a project calendar, Basecamp keeps discussions, to-do lists, documents and related files organized by projects that everyone can access. Basecamp was originally founded in 1999 as 37signals and developed Ruby on Rails and other open source software. The company's founders Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson have also written best-selling books on telecommuting and project management, including REWORK, REMOTE and Getting Real.
