Chromium

Open source projects for developing Web browsers and Web-based operating systems. Google's Chrome browser and Chrome OS are based on code from Chromium. The source code for Windows, Mac and Linux is available from the Chromium website (www.chromium.org).

The Browser Is Two Modules
The WebKit rendering engine displays and executes the Web page. Because it deals with untrusted content, it runs in a sandbox that prevents illegal system calls to be executed from the Web page. Via interprocess communications, the rendering engine interfaces with the browser kernel, which interacts with the operating system. If a Web application crashes, Chromium is able to cancel that operation without bringing down the browser and possibly the operating system. See WebKit, Chromebook and Chrome browser.
