DOS window

Generally refers to a DOS session under Windows. Windows can run DOS programs full screen or in a resizable window similar to other Windows applications. See DOS box.

DOS box

Slang for a DOS session in Windows. The "box" is actually an instance of the Intel x86 Virtual 8086 Mode, which simulates an independent, fully functional PC environment. See Virtual 8086 Mode.
