Definition: DTRS

(Digital Tape Recording System) A line of 8-track digital audiotape recorders from TASCAM (TEAC Audio Systems Corporation of America). Also known as "modular digital multitrack" (MDM) machines, the DA-88 was the first TASCAM model. Introduced in 1993 to compete with ADAT machines, DTRS machines used Hi8 cassettes rather than S-VHS. The DA-88 and subsequent DA-78 and DA-98 models were widely used in film, video and music production. See MDM.
