(Dolby High-Dynamic Range) A family of high-contrast LED backlight technologies for LCD TVs from Dolby Laboratories.
Introduced in 2008, Dolby Contrast is an LED backlight technology that uses local dimming to increase the dynamic range between the brightest and darkest pixels of the image. See LED TV.
Dolby Vision offers a dynamic range of 4,000 nits and beyond; however, additional data must be incorporated into the signal. Debuting in high-end 4K TV sets in 2015, Dolby Vision supports 12-bit color for a total of 68 billion colors. See 12-bit color, HDR and LED TV.
