A CDE Definition
(Entity Relationship for WINdows) A data modeling program for Windows from CA Technologies. It allows the database schemas to be built graphically and turns the graphs into the appropriate SQL code for creating PowerBuilder, DB2, Oracle, Sybase and other databases. Erwin was originally developed by Princeton, New Jersey-based LogicWorks, which was acquired by Platinum Technology and then Computer Associates (CA Technologies). See entity relationship model.
entity relationship model
A database model that describes the attributes of entities and the relationships among them. An entity is a file (table). Today, ER models are often created graphically, and software converts the graphical representations of the tables into the SQL code required to create the data structures in the database. See data model and dimensional modeling.
