A JavaScript routine that places persistent cookies in the user's computer by storing them in multiple locations and in obscure ways; for example, hiding the text within a PNG image file. If one of the cookie files is deleted, Evercookie restores it. Evercookie was introduced as open source software in 2010 by Samy Kamkar as proof of concept. Kamkar was the hacker who infected more than a million users on MySpace in 2005. Utilities to remove Evercookie were subsequently developed by third parties. See cookie and Flash cookie.
