FOT file

(FOnt TrueType file) In Windows 3.1, a TrueType font file that pointed to the location of the TTF file, which contained the actual mathematical outlines of the font. See TTF file.

TTF file

(TrueType Font file) A TrueType font file in Windows that contains the mathematical outlines of each character in the font. In the Mac, the icon of a TrueType file looks like a document, dog-eared on the upper left, with three A's on it. TTF files are stored in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\FONTS folders. For example, the following files make up the Arial typeface. See FOT file.
