Fontware

An earlier font generator for various DOS applications from Bitstream Inc., Cambridge, MA (www.bitstream.com) which included a library of typeface outlines in normal, italic, bold and bold italic weights. FontWare was discontinued in favor of newer scalable font technologies. See font scaler.

Software that converts scalable fonts into bitmaps on the fly as required for display or printing. Examples are TrueType, Adobe Type Manager and Bitstream's TrueDoc. See scalable font and font generator.
