Icon language

A high-level programming language maintained by the University of Arizona (www.cs.arizona.edu/icon). Using ALGOL syntax, Icon features extensive string handling similar to SNOBOL and automatic generation of multiple outputs, such as a range of integers or strings. Jcon is the Java-based implementation. See SNOBOL.



SNOBOL

(StriNg Oriented symBOlic Language) One of the first list processing languages, which was developed by Ralph Griswold and associates at Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ. It was used for text processing and compiler development. The first version was introduced in 1963, with later versions throughout the 1960s.
