MGA

(1) (Monochrome Graphics Adapter) A Hercules-compliant graphics card. See Hercules Graphics.

(2) (Matrox Graphics Accelerator) A trade name for earlier graphics cards from Matrox Graphics Inc., Dorval, Quebec; for example, the MGA Millennium.



Hercules Graphics

An earlier monochrome graphics card for PCs, which was a de facto standard. Hercules Graphics provided a screen resolution of 720x348 pixels for text and graphics, whereas IBM's monochrome card displayed only text. Hercules Computer Technology introduced the product in 1982 to fill the void.
