A CDE Definition
(Near Letter Quality) The text output of dot matrix printers and some thermal printers, which is not as crisp as that of laser and inkjet printers. See letter quality.
An evaluation of the print quality of an electric typewriter, indicating suitability for business correspondence. Relevant in the past, laser printers and most inkjet printers have long achieved this standard. See NLQ.
