Definition: robotic vacuum cleaner
A household vacuum cleaner that cleans the floor without user intervention other than emptying the dustbin. Sensors on the unit avoid objects and walls while cleaning. The battery-operated units are charged in a base station and automatically find their way back when their containers are filled or they need recharging. Initially only vacuuming, robotic cleaners added models that vacuum and mop the floor. The first robotic cleaner was the Electrolux Trilobite in 1996.

The unit automatically maps the home by just letting it roam. The red line is a "virtual wall" added by the homeowner at the opening to a step-down. Increasingly, machine vision and other AI functions are added to all variety of consumer and business products.
The future is always predicted. From 1899 to 1910, several "En L'An 2000" drawings were created by various French artists to depict life in the 21st century.
