A CDE Definition
A high-end Unix-based pSeries server from IBM. Introduced in 2001, the model p690 brought self healing and partitioning to the pSeries (RS/6000). It also inaugurated IBM's POWER4 chip known as "Spinnaker," which contained two 1 GHz processors. The copper-based silicon on insulator (SOI) POWER4 chips provided increased performance with less power than previous POWER chips.
