WinINSTALL

A Windows software packaging and deployment program from Scalable Software (www.scalable.com). The WinINSTALL Lifecycle Management Suite (LMS) version provides all WinINSTALL functions from a central console. Throughout the 1990s, WinINSTALL was the most widely used MSI installer on the market. Developed by OnDemand Software Corporation, WinINSTALL was acquired by, in order, Seagate Software, Veritas Software, a resurrected OnDemand Software, Attachmate Software and then Scalable Software (2008). See Windows installer.

Windows Installer

Microsoft's installation system for Windows. The installer, which is available in Visual Studio and other stand-alone programs, compresses the application into .MSI "package" files, and the MSIEXEC.EXE program in the Windows PC performs the installation. Transform files (.MST) provide language translation and other dynamic changes at install time.
