A CDE Definition
A device that connects one or more users to the Internet. It combines the modem, which accesses the ISP, and a router, which forwards traffic to the modem and distributes responses to the requesting machines. A true cable modem/router has no Ethernet switching or Wi-Fi; however, the term is also used for a wireless router, which includes them (see wireless router). See cable modem and router.
