A CDE Definition
The makeup of a system. To "configure software" means selecting programmable options that make the program function to the user's liking. To "configure hardware" means assembling desired components for a custom system as well as selecting options in the user-programmable parts of the system. "Configurability" refers to the hardware or software's ability to be changed and customized. See settings.
A software control panel that enables the user to configure the appearance or actions in an application, operating system or the hardware. Also called "preferences," "tools" and "options." Windows settings are contained in Control Panels, while Mac settings are found in System Preferences. iOS and Android settings are retrieved when tapping the gear-shaped settings icon.
If a program's settings are not modified by the user, the default configuration is used. See default and control panel.
