A CDE Definition
continuous data protection
The automatic, continuous copying of data onto a backup storage device. Each time a document is saved, that version is backed up automatically. With traditional backup procedures, data are backed up at prescribed intervals, such as once per hour or once per day. With continuous data protection, documents can be restored to any editing point. See data protection management.
data protection management
The administration of backup procedures to protect data against computer system failure or environmental disaster. Data protection management (DPM) makes sure that backups are performed correctly and on time and that adequate storage is available when needed. It also covers privacy, security and compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. See continuous data protection and backup types.
