A CDE Definition
(1) The parts of a program that reserve space for user data. When the program is running, those reserved data areas wind up being allocated in memory until the program is exited. See program.
(2) The part of a network packet that holds the user messages. Contrast with the header and, if used, the trailer, which delineate the packet and describe the attributes of the protocol. See TCP/IP abc's.
