Definition: future proof

Future proof means not becoming obsolete in the future. As much as the computer field drives the future, there are very few future-proof products within it. One exception might be optical fiber, which seems capable of handling more bandwidth than we can imagine. However, years ago people thought 640KB would be all the RAM anyone would ever need in a desktop computer. Today's gaming computers can have 32GB of RAM, 50,000 times more than 640KB. See optical fiber, gaming PC and RAM.
