A CDE Definition
The combining of hardware and software components so that they work together. Different types of hardware may be integrated with other hardware. Software may be integrated into hardware, but integrating software is the integration that takes place most of the time in the IT world. See software integration.
The combining of subroutines, software modules or full programs with other software components in order to develop an application or enhance the functionality of an existing one. Often requiring a lot of source code modification, developers, as well as IT staff, may spend a large amount of their time performing software integration. See integration and integrated system.
