low-profile motherboard

A motherboard that uses a riser card for peripheral cards in order to lower the height of the case. The expansion cards sit parallel with the motherboard. The NLX, LPX and Mini LPX motherboards are low profile examples. See PC motherboards.

Low Profile Board
Instead of being perpendicular, PCI cards plug into the riser card and sit parallel with the motherboard.
