mesh network

A communications network in which there are at least two pathways to each node. If one of the paths fails, the other is still available.

A "fully meshed" network means that every node has a direct connection to every other node, which is a very elaborate and expensive architecture. Most mesh networks are partially meshed and require traversing intermediate nodes to go from each node to every other. See mesh, wireless mesh network, topology and 802.11s.

Mesh Vs. Star Topologies
In a mesh network, there is more than one path to each node. In contrast, a star network relies on the center node to always be up and running.
