A CDE Definition
Not needing to precisely line up two objects that interact with each other. See reversible plug.
A plug that can be inserted into its socket in either orientation. It has a "symmetric pinout," which means the contacts are duplicated on both sides of the plug and inner sides of the socket. Examples are the Apple Lightning and USB 3.1 Type-C connectors, which superseded their non-reversible predecessors. See Lightning connector and USB Type C.
