A CDE Definition
A cable that has an appropriate connector on one end and loose wires on the other. It is designed to patch into an existing line or to terminate the ends of a long run. See patch cord.
A specific length of cable terminated at each end with a plug. Patch cords typically range from three to 50 feet, although shorter and longer lengths are also available. Any cable (telephone, audio, video, Ethernet, etc.) with connectors on both ends is a patch cord. See patch panel and pigtail.
