A CDE Definition
Refers to DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs in order to differentiate them from the DVD-RAM format, because they use a different file structure. DVD-RW/+RW discs are said to be re-recordable, while DVD-RAM discs are rewritable. In practice, the terms are used synonymously. See DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM.
