Typically refers to a speaker in a home theater system that is placed behind or on the side of the listening area. See surround sound.
An audio recording and playback system that uses five or more channels plus a subwoofer. Used to enhance movies and games, the latest surround sound technologies are Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, although there are several earlier surround processing methods that are in widespread use (see Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital and DTS).
